It is not difficult to find a deserving charity. Nowadays
there are a lot. Most of them are devoted to trustworthy
and sympathetic causes. Some may be considered
controversial by some people but most are not. Some
charities are questioned because of their money handling
practices but that is not the case of the majority of
them. Consequently, having so many millions of charities
to opt for, it is not easy to choose. As a large number of
people have little money to spare, they have to select
one thing, not because they refuse to give but because
they can't. Nevertheless, money is not the only thing to
give. One of our most priceless supplies is time, which
many people find hard to give though.
When choosing a charity to give to, you should first
consider what you have to give. Do you want to give of your
time or you money, or something completely different? If
all you have to give is your children's hand-me-downs, that
is enough. There are lots of charities for children that
greatly appreciate this type of donation along with old
toys and glasses. These type donations usually go to needy
families and shelters.
In case you have just your time to offer, you will have
innumerable possibilities. What are you good at or like to
do? Businesses employees and members of a church are
often persuaded to engage in charity. Baking is a
profitable option since bake sales are a common way to
collect money for your charity. If you start a fundraiser
in the name of a charity beware of not doing it for a
charity who hasn't approved anything. There are places for
different kinds of charities if you like working with
determined types of people e.g., women's shelters,
homeless shelters, places for the disabled, children in
need, and so on.
You won't be turned down if your choice of venue is money.
After considering the cause you wish to further, find a
trusted source in that area, for example: hospitals. Some
hospitals provide help to all sorts of people, disregarding
their social status. People who can't pay are given the
best care, not because it is their obligation but because
someone like you is always ready to offer help.
To look for charities in your neighborhood, you can go to
several places. Local newspapers and radio stations usually
know this information. Also, most cities have homepages
that may list these opportunities.
